My father told me that "moon come moon big wok" is a Chinese-American slang term with the same meaning as 越來越大鑊, since 越 sounds like 月. But I can't seem to find this phrase anywhere online. Has anyone else heard of it?

My husband is from Baisha and speaks in a See Yup dialect.
Our son has children who call my husband Aa Je and who call me Aa Maa (I received this information from this site)
Our daughter is due to have a child and I am wondering what this child should call my husband and myself.
My husband has no grandparents (all having passed before he was born) so is not sure that he would give the correct information.

How to hide pinyin on the CantonDict website? (1 reply)
I really like the Cantonese to Jyutping parser function, and I recommended some Cantonese learners to use it. However, I would like to see a Cantonese pingjam only page, because mandarin pinyin is not necessary to show up and it is confusing. Is there any method or setting to hide the mandarin pinyin on the parser page or on the whole CantonDict website to avoid confusion? Thank you.

Cantonese Books for Sale (no replies)
If anyone is interested, I have some popular titled books that I purchased a few years ago from Greenwoood Press, which incidentally is only a short walk from where I liove in Hong Kong. I will get around to putting the list up on this site. But, in the meantime, if you know of a book that you might want from Greenwood, let me know the title and Author and if I have it, I will sell it cheap (+ postage and packing). The books are in very good condition, but I have only two or three I plan too keep, as the titles are quite rare now. But hey, who knows, I might be open to an offer :book:

When I was a kid, my mom said that the people in Taishan used to say 冬大過年 (UHNG OIH GWUOH NAHN). She couldn't explain why.
I see at the Asian Cinema forum they've a short film titled 冬大過年 (thread) that got me rethinking it.
I tried a CantoDict search, but, didn't get a response. Just that they've added it for an editor to look into it.
I know that 冬 signifies the winter solstice and that 年 signifies the Chinese (lunar) new year (which corresponds to the start of spring), but, why is 冬 (the winter solstice) bigger than 年 (the Chinese new year or spring festival), the biggest holiday on the Chinese calendar?
